U.S. Ambassador in Brazil Thomas Shannon spoke to a full house of approximately 200 students and faculty at the Federal University of Pernambuco on the subject of US-Brazil relations on February 7. After a 15-minute presentation, the ambassador fielded questions on diverse topics including U.S. policy on Syria and Libya, the UN security council, and environmental issues.

Shannon commented that this is a “special time” for Brazil, a time of unprecedented opportunity for the country economically and politically. The Ambassador also emphasized the strong bilateral relationship between the US and Brazil and how our two countries are now working together in third countries such as Haiti.
